BIo: My story
The Early Years
Samarth Srinivasan’s journey into the world of music began at the age of seven, when he first started learning the piano, laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong passion. By 13, his fascination with composition had taken root, and he deepened his understanding of the craft, setting the stage for his bright future.
Samarth's love for music grew stronger throughout his undergraduate years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. While pursuing a double major in Music Composition and Chemistry, he balanced his academic commitments with an unshakable interest in music. Despite excelling in both fields, it became clear to him that his true calling lay in composing for the big screen.
Masters at Berklee College of music
By the end of his four years at SMU, Samarth made a life-changing decision. Instead of going down the traditional path towards dental school, he submitted a last-minute application to Berklee College of Music to pursue his passion for music.
At Berklee, he further honed his craft, writing and recording more of his music than ever before, including multiple compositions with the Budapest Art orchestra and ultimately, a master's thesis recorded with a 51-piece orchestra in London at the world-renowned Air Lyndhurst Studio. After he earned his Master of Music in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games, Samarth’s world expanded, and doors began to open. Upon graduating, he set a personal timeline - three years to make a mark in the music industry.
Career Journey
His first major breakthrough came when he cold-emailed a well-renowned composer duo, Salim-Sulaiman. With little expectation, his work was noticed, leading to an invitation to meet with them. At just 22, Samarth moved to Mumbai, stepping into the world of Indian cinema. After a few successful releases with them, he has expanded his clientele mainly through word of mouth. Since then, he has worked alongside legends such as A.R. Rahman, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Shreya Ghoshal, contributing to the music of 70+ acclaimed films including Pathaan, Heeramandi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Maidaan, and Ponniyin Selvan.
Now a full-time musician, Samarth manages multiple projects simultaneously, from film scoring and songs to orchestration, production, and arranging. He has recently started working on live shows as well. His first major event took place at Lollapalooza India, where he conducted a live orchestra alongside Komorebi, performing before a crowd of 3,000 attendees. He has also arranged music for Prateek Kuhad’s live show and was even invited to the prestigious Ambani wedding, where he helped prepare music for A. R. Rahman’s performance. While he has been a major behind-the-scenes player in the industry thus far, this is just the beginning for Samarth.
